A Few Tips + Tricks

  • Max Fragrance Recommendation: 2%
  • Max Oil/Butter Recommendation: 1% Adding oils/butters will decrease the lather
  • Heat to 185ºF (85°C) using a double boiler for increased temperature control
  • 185ºF+ (85°C+) temperature must be achieved in order for additives and fragrance to properly bind to the syndet base.
  • The melt color of this product is translucent yellow, but it will return to an opaque white finish after hardening. Fragrance oils, essential oils, and dyes can affect the final color.
  • We recommend cavity molds for this product. If you opt for a loaf mold, we recommend using a wire cutter.

Super easy to use...definitely want to tweak with additives to harden bar
Mae 2024-10-20

I really love how easy it is to use this base. I can't work with lye to do cold process, so I've been trying out different M&P bases to find out which ones I like best. I first tested this using only a small amount of color block (just a thick shaving, certainly less than 0.5% by weight), and less than 1% fragrance oil for a light scent. It came out of the mold kind of soft, and even after curing most of a week, it stayed soft. I reread, and realized I did not heat the base enough (it only hit about 160 °F), and I also decided to try hardening with 2% cetyl alcohol, as recommended by another commenter below. I cut up and reheated the old bars to nearly 185 °F, which was high enough to melt the cetyl alcohol pellets thoroughly, kept stirring to mix well, then poured when the temperature went down to about 145 °F. I also used a different mold with smoother edges, as sharp edges seem to crumble more easily. The result was much better, firmer bars. I may not have mixed the cetyl alcohol well enough,, so I will try to melt to a higher temperature next time, but I'm really happy with the result after the changes. I will try an unscented, no-color version with honey and oils next time to test as a face bar.

Great product!

I bought some of this to try it out because I just wanted a syndet bar that was actually pourable, and without SCI noodles showing. This surely fit the bill. I did find it a bit soft even after curing for 4 weeks. I do a lot of markets and I need a bar that won’t get dented and smoosh. So, second time around I added 1% cetyl alcohol to make it firmer. It is better, but still a bit too soft. I’ll try the next batch with 2% cetyl alcohol. I’m very pleased with it as a whole though

I expanded to include soaps this year in my collection and customers are loving this product! So disappointed it's out of stock until late July though.

Doesn't melt in the shower
Dragonspittle 2024-04-07

The first thing I noticed is that this product doesn't melt in the shower like soaps tend to. It holds scent nicely even after a couple of months. It is sensitive skin friendly and isuch less drying than soap. I recommend using a round mold for this, as it does tend to break more easily during use if it's in a rectangular shape.
I would LOVE a conditioner bar product to pair with this, so I can make my own complementary scent instead of having to purchase then already made elsewhere.
Thanks for carrying this wonderful product!

Perfect!

I made shampoo bars with this and so far it's the best I've used! I'm going to make them for my customers and see if they feel the same!
