Olfactive Description: Fresh, Citrus, Sweet, Peely

With its sweet, citrus scent, Orange (Sweet) essential oil is cold pressed from the peel of the citrus sinensis peel, more commonly known as the Valencia orange peel. What makes Orange (Sweet) essential oil an upcycled product? Every year, billions of oranges are used by the orange juice industry. That means that there were billions of orange peels going to waste until someone realized the peels could be upcycled into essential oil. The most common areas upcycling orange peels include the United States, Brazil, and Mexico.

We recommend this essential oil for bath and body products like wax melts, melt and pour soap, cold and hot process soap, lotion, body butters, and scrubs. Orange (Sweet) also performs well with our reed diffuser base.

Candle Maker’s Notes:
We do not recommend this essential oil for use in candles. While it’s safe for use in candles, we found that the burning flame transforms this essential oil into an unpleasant scent, very similar to a fuel smell. We’re guessing this isn’t the fragrance most of our customers want! However, wax melts produce the expected sweet and citrus scent.

Room and Linen Spray Maker's Notes:
We do not recommend Orange (Sweet) Essential Oil in room and linen spray due to potential staining, even though it is IFRA approved.

If you’re searching for an orange fragrance that performs well in a candle, we recommend Orange Blossom or Blood Orange fragrance oil.

Lye Water Temperature 108ºF (42.2°C)

We experienced slight acceleration and some ricing. Initially, the oils and lye water was slow to reach an emulsion. We stick blended to a light trace and noticed there was some thickening. By the time we wiped off the stick blender and set it aside we noticed the batter was thicker. As we were pouring it into the mold the batter became grainy. After 24 hours we observed the soap had discolored yellow and the loaf almost reached a full gel. There appeared to be 2 rings from the gel phase, so there may have been some overheating through the center. The soap didn’t have any other characteristics of overheating but thought this was worth noting. The scent was strong. After 30 days the soap remained a very pale yellow and the scent had faded significantly.
