Just perfect...for certain things!

This is a dynamic cedar fragrance oil! Some things to know before diving in. It is the smoky and spicy side of cedar with a hint of sweetness, but generally fairly dry. I found notes of cured tobacco leaf were a major component. I also get a very vague sense of Cinnamic Aldehyde, giving it spiced undertones. This did have a slight acrid quality OOB--sharpness and almost fishiness--that wasn't pronounced in wax, but overall adds to its perfect application in smoky concoctions. Mixing this with a bit of Smoke Element, I got great bonfire vibes in both hot and cold throw. Mixing it judiciously with Green Leaves Element added some of the sweetness and green wood fragrance many might be looking for. I can imagine this playing beautifully against a contrasting floral note like lily of the valley, lavender, or rose. Very grateful to CS for offering these paired down elements for us to experiment with!

I love it

This one is more like smoked cedar, like sauna type of smoke. If you are looking for something more close to fresh cedar barks, don't go with this one. As for me, I'm in love. Very natural scent, resinous, pepper-ish, smoked. Not very green, but crispy fresh undertones hard to describe.

Smoky

This oil has quite a smoky smell to it which was not what I was expecting as nothing of that manner is listed anywhere. It’s a nice woody smoke, but don’t expect straight Cedarwood. I would call this smoked Cedarwood.

Perfect.

Another gorgeous FO. This isn't straight cedarwood essential oil type of cedarwood....but it is warm, mellow and a well rounded cedar. 10/10 do recommend.

Not sure about this one

Finally got around to using this one (ordered it about 3 weeks ago). OOB, I'm definitely getting a cedar scent, but there's also a strong "plastic" note as well. I'm testing in some of my products but so far that plastic scent is still there. Might have to continue looking for a Cedar fragrance oil....but in love with everything else I've received from CS.

This one missed the mark for me.

This FO is similar to the smoke element but different enough so I know it's not a mislabeled bottle and everyone who I had blind sniff the blotter strip guessed things like "mesquite?" "hickory bbq?" "burning charcoal?" which is not the guess you want when you're aiming for a fresh cedarwood smell.

But I know better than to judge OOB, so I made a few wax melts, one with just the cedar, one blended, cured for 2 weeks and tested and ugh, big no. It's not warm or woody at all, it's smoky and almost acrid. . The scent did not transform or mellow out at all, but on the plus side the throw, both HT and CT, was very strong and lasting so 3 stars for that.
