Registering your business with North Carolina is actually quite easy.

Step 1
Download and fill out the “NC BR” form available from the North Carolina Department of Revenue’s website.

Step 2
Once complete, either mail it in as per the form instructions, or visit an office as suggested in the Department of Revenue’s FAQ.

We’ve found that visiting the office is the best way, as they often provide you with a number immediately, whereas it can take a month or more if you mail it in.

The questions are quite simple, and we’ve found the NC Dept of Rev staff to be quite helpful.

Step 3
Once you receive your papers back from the state fill out our form for sales tax exemption.
